App inventor has been updated to a new beta version. The instructions below were for the previous version. The cause for the error should still be the same reason: Your computer does not have the app inventor emulator installed locally on your machine.
Search for ‘App Inventor Download’ to download and install. After a restart of the application, the error should go away.

Update: There is a second program that needs to be installed before you run App inventor. The second program is the very important android emulator. It is very easy to overlook the download link. In case you missed it, here it is: download.
